Consider the apple: what makes you choose one over another? What makes you want to bite into it and learn how it tastes? Like an apple, we might not judge a book by its cover, but we will certainly choose the one we select from all the others to taste based on what we see... Welcome to my Art for books, cd's, websites, marketing site.If you've come here, its because you know the importance of a smart, intelligently designed book, cd cover, and important marketing materials like tightly focussed websites, posters, postcards, brochures and company documents. The book cover design is a book's single biggest marketing tool. It is a billboard that works 24/7 on the book itself, and on all the marketing materials it is applied to. And inside the cover, the book must be easy for the user to read, easy to navigate through. An experienced, professional designer who knows the visual, production and marketing technology of book design makes the job of producing, marketing and selling the book a lot easier. The public has been trained by movies, television and other venues to know that good production values mean better products. With more products available than ever before, your book must stand out from thousands of others to even begin to announce its unique content and quality. A book needs more than a pretty face. A well designed book goes far beyond simple aesthetics, which frankly varies from one person to the next. A cover can't just be aesthetically pleasing or amusing or simply utilitarian; it has to 'speak' to your audience, not only with words, but also with images and colors. It has to let them know you know --and have--what they are looking for. A cover needs to be eyecatching just to be picked out from others on the same book shelf. But what it says after it gets the attention is the next most important thing, and often makes the biggest difference in whether your intended reader takes a closer look or keeps moving...to the next offering. It has to compel a potential buyer to come pick it up and see what is behind what the cover promises. There's a good bit of science in doing that. Here you have most of the advantages of a large publishing company without the heavy overhead and groups of different people to deal with. I can act as a single source to save you time and aggravation. I have multiple disciplines in my background, all of which contribute to the process of making a book leap off the shelf into a reader's hands. Broad interests and years of working in the advertising, publishing, film, animation, video game, and interactive training industries as a designer have taught me things someone working in only one or two of those areas would never guess, and I've often brought things I've learned from one industry to make innovations in another. I take great pleasure in putting my rich background into a full service design resource for you. Rather than be a faceless number and mass produced title, you will get interested, caring, personalized service. You can check out some of my recent client's book marketing websites using the links below. I designed the book marketing site for Sexy in Your 60's only, the others designed their own. More samples from past projects, even from other disciplines, are available in my Book Art Samples section. |
